30 Days Out, October 2026 #1: Luna, Macon Music Revue, Trombone Shorty, Thundercat

Some great nationally-touring acts in this one. I’ll get back to 30 Days Out covering some WNC artists presently. Meantime…

Artist: Luna
Venue: Grey Eagle
Date: Saturday, Oct. 3, 8 p.m.
Door: $31.25
Indie rockers Luna got their star when Galaxie 500 guitarist Dean Wareham quit the latter band. The group has eight studio albums and four literally- (if unimaginatively) titled live albums. Their second album, 1994’s Bewitched – featured Tom Verlaine and Sterling Morrison as guest musicians. For novitiates, that information should tell you all you need to know about where Luna’s coming from. In related news, Sister Ray Davies (clever name!) opens.

Artist: Macon Music Revue
Venue: White Horse
Date: Thursday, Oct. 8, 6:30 p.m.
Door: $25 suggested (pay what you can)
Lots of great music has come out of the small city south of Atlanta. Capricorn Records, the Allman Brothers and other notables all have strong connections to Macon. So building a concept around the music of the city makes a lot of sense, and makes for a great evening of music. MMR also plays Friday 10/9 at 7:30pm.

Artist: Trombone Shorty
Venue: Sierra Nevada
Date: Friday, Oct. 9, 6 p.m.
Door: $51.50
While he comes out of the New Orleans musical tradition, Trombone Shorty (Troy Andrews to family and close associates) makes music that builds upon that foundation and takes it other places. Nominally a jazz-funk artist, his original music draws from other popular forms as well. Orleans Avenue and Abraham Alexander are also on the bill. While Trombone Shorty makes music that’s accessible, he’s a critics’ darling as well, with Grammy nominations (and a 2022 win) plus an armload of other well-deserved recognition.

CANCELLED!

Artist: Thundercat
Venue: Thomas Wolfe
Date: Tuesday, Oct. 13, 8 p.m.
Door: $50
Speaking of artists whose work transcends genre, Thundercat (Stephen Bruner) is a master of everything from thrash metal to fusion to electronica and more. A monster bassist, too. His collabs with giants like Kamasi Washington, Gorillaz, Kendrick Lamar and Spinal Tap underscore his pan-genre dexterity. TiaCorine opens.

See you at the show!
