30 Days Out, Feb. 2026 #2: Mike Dillon Band, Dom Flemons, Nicole Zuraitis, Gary Numan
No surprise: there’s some great live music coming to Asheville in these next 30 days. Punk jazz, vocal jazz, Americana and industrial/electronica are the highlights of what’s on offer. Brave the cold and go support live music!
Artist: Mike Dillon Band
Venue: Third Room
Date: Saturday, Feb. 28, 9 p.m.
Door: $19.73
The acclaimed “punk vibraphonist” and his band are a regular fixture of the Asheville music scene, and for good reason: they put on a show like no other. An enthusiastic collaborator, Dillon has worked with Garage A Trois, Skerik, Les Claypool and many others. His current trio – together since 2021 – features Brian Haas and Nikki Glaspie.
Artist: Dom Flemons
Venue: Grey Eagle
Date: Sunday, March 1, 8 p.m.
Door: $29.75
Dom Flemons is the “American Songster.” Putting the lie to any nonsensical ideas that Americana is an exclusively white art form, the brilliant and talented Flemons came to fame as a member of the Carolina Chocoloate Drops. Flemons is a scholar of old time, bluegrass and blues, and he’s adept on a wide variety of traditional acoustic instruments. A Grammy nominee (for 2018’s Black Cowboys), Flemons has released five albums as a solo artist; 2023’s Traveling Wildfire is his latest. I interviewed Flemons in 2019 and again in 2021.
Artist: Nicole Zuraitis
Venue: Wortham Center
Date: Wednesday, March 4, 7 p.m.
Door: $34.78
Jazz vocalist and two-time Grammy nominee Nicole Zuraitis launched a solo recording career with 2008’s Spread the Word. Today her body of work as a solo artist includes eight albums. 2025 saw the release of two Zuraitis albums: Live at Vic’s Las Vegas and All Stars Lead to You – Live.
Artist: Gary Numan
Venue: Orange Peel
Date: Thursday, March 12, 8 p.m.
Door: $45.85
Sure, the 1980 hit single “Cars” is what Gary Numan is most known for. But before that – and certainly after, right up until present-day – Numan’s compelling work is well worth a deep dive. His work deftly explores industrial, electronic, darkwave and more, and – I can personally attest that his live show is one of the best I’ve witnessed. He’s also a great interview subject, as I discovered in 2018.
See you at the show!
