30 Days Out, March 2025 #2: Jane Monheit, Eleanor Underhill, Ska City, Ana Popovic
This go-round features two local artists and two touring ones. All four are well worth seeing and hearing.
Artist: Jane Monheit
Venue: Wortham Center
Date: Saturday, March 15, 8 p.m.
Door: $55
Jane Monheit is an American jazz and pop singer known for her rich voice and emotive style. Emerging in the early 2000s, she gained recognition for her smooth vocal delivery and ability to blend genres. Monheit’s career includes multiple albums and a strong following in the jazz world.
Artist: Eleanor Underhill
Venue: Highland Brewing
Date: Sunday, March 16, 2 p.m.
Door: $free (but tip generously ‘cos she deserves it)
Eleanor Underhill might be closely associated with the banjo, but her artistry transcends Americana (or any other genre, for that matter). She’s a superb and engaging musician and composer, and a really cool individual as well. Not counting the wonderful evening I spent in conversation with her at Asheville Guitar Bar, I’ve interviewed her twice: here and here.
Artist: Ska City
Venue: Eulogy
Date: Friday, March 21, 7 p.m.
Door: $15.99
Ska is an exuberant take on reggae, which is a way of saying it’s a helluva lotta fun. And this Asheville-based outfit understands it. I’ve interviewed them here. Double Love & Trouble open.
Artist: Ana Popovic
Venue: Grey Eagle
Date: Tuesday, April 8, 8 p.m.
Door: $29.25
Sure, she’s purty. But the Serbian guitarist can shred. She’s proof positive that while the blues is an American musical form, it’s universal. I’ve interviewed Ana a couple of times, here and here.
See you at the show!
