Review Teaser: Dennis Diken with Bell Sound
Smashing! I just went to the mailbox and found my advance copy of the new album by Dennis Diken with Bell Sound. Diken is — among other cool things — drummer for the Smithereens, but this is his first up-front outing without that group. Featuring heavy friends familiar to powerpop fans (Jason Falkner; Probyn Gregory and Nick Walusko of Wondermints; Andy Paley and others) this looks and sounds to be a great album. So far I’m only to track #3, but already I’ve heard grin-inducing nods to Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!)-era Beach Boys (“Standing in That Line”) and Sell Out-era Who (“Long Lonely Ride”). With a background in marketing and advertising, Bill Kopp got his professional start writing for Trouser Press. After a stint as Editor-in-chief for a national music magazine, Bill launched Musoscribe in 2009, and has published new content every business day since then (and every single day since 2018).
