Preview: Music Movie Mondays – ‘Little Richard: I Am Everything’

Some rock legends were circumspect about their role in the creation and popularization of the American musical form. Others were more forthright in claiming the credit they felt due. Richard Penniman – that’s Little Richard to you and me – was most definitely in the latter category. Originator of countless classic tunes, Little Richard established a template that would influence countless artists who would follow in his wake. Often imitated, never equaled, Little Richard was force of nature. “Flamboyant” doesn’t even begin to describe the man’s presence, onstage and off. A new and critically acclaimed documentary, Little Richard: I Am Everything chronicles his life, career and enduring legacy.

A special June 10 screening as part of the Music Movie Mondays series at Grail Movie House will be hosted by Asheville author and music journalist Bill Kopp (that’s me!). For one night only – Monday, June 10 @ 7 pm – Music Movie Mondays will present Little Richard: I Am Everything. The program will feature a brief introduction. Then we’ll watch the film together; afterward, we’ll engage in a moderated discussion.

The one-night-only screening of Little Richard: I Am Everything is the latest in the ongoing popular series of Music Movie Mondays at Grail Moviehouse. Every month, we’ll watch and discuss new releases, classics and cult favorites. Music Movie Monday is proudly sponsored by AshevilleFM.
