Preview: Music to Your Ears: R.E.M.’s ‘Reckoning’

R.E.M. debuted with their Chronic Town EP and followed it up with the great Murmur. But it was the band’s second long-player, 1983’s Reckoning that truly broke them nationally. Tracks like “(Don’t Go Back to) Rockville” and “So. Central Rain” would quickly gain classic status, and R.E.M. helped usher in a viable alternative (if you will) to the corporate rock that had ruled the airwaves.

In celebration of Reckoning‘s 40th(!) anniversary, this month’s Music to Your Ears will feature a listening part, LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCE from Joe Hooten of Tin Roof Echo, and a discussion led by host Bill Kopp (that’s me) about the album. Don’t miss it! This coming Wednesday.
