30 Days Out, October 2022 #1: Sweet Lizzy Project, Brushfire Stankgrass, Marley Carroll, Mac Sabbath
The next 30 days of live music in Asheville are all over the map. And we like it that way. Here are four highlights of the coming 30 days (okay, 31 this time).
Artist: Sweet Lizzy Project
Venue: Asheville Music Hall
Date: Thursday, October 20, 8:30 p.m.
Door: $17
When I reviewed this Cuban group’s album Technicolor in 2019, I pointed out that they’re not the stereotypical Cuban group. They’re modern rock, and are championed by the always-in-good-taste Mavericks. As I wrote then, “very strongly recommended.”
Artist: Brushfire Stankgrass
Venue: Pisgah Brewing
Date: Thursday, October 20, 6:30 p.m.
Door: $ free
This local Asheville outfit has built quite a following over the years. Fans are drawn to the group’s peerless instrumental work (they come from jazz backgrounds). This music likely falls into the jamgrass bag, and for those who appreciate that style, this should be your local go-to source.
Artist: Marley Carroll
Venue: Highland Brewing
Date: Saturday, October 29, 9 p.m.
Door: $ free
I interviewed Caroll in early 2019; most of our discussion focused on his original music and the ways in which it draws from and connects to his DJ work. And it’s that DJ side of Marley Carroll that will be on display this night.
Artist: Mac Sabbath
Venue: Grey Eagle
Date: Monday, October 31, 9 p.m.
Door: $23
What can I say about this wacky high-concept metal band – critiques of processed food meet the heavy rock of Black Sabbath – that hasn’t been said already? How about this: I’m interviewing them (or at least manager Mike Odd) soon for a story. Go! It’ll be crazy. Speedealer and Lung are also on the bill.
See you at the show!
