Ray Charles = Genius. Michael Jackson ≠ Genius.

Ray Charles - GeniusAgainst a backdrop of TV news/infotainment’s wall-to-wall, undeservedly reverential adoration for Michael Jackson, I found myself tasked with considering the meaning of the word genius.

My Talk With Howard / My Dinner With Jimi

My Dinner With JimiThis evening I had the honor and pleasure to speak at great length with Howard Kaylan. Known to some as “Eddie” (as in, Flo and Eddie), vocalist for FZ’s Mothers, known to many others as the lead singer for the Turtles, Howard is also the screenwriter of a lovely new film — just out on DVD — called My Dinner With Jimi. It’s the humorous-yet-true story of, well, you can probably guess.

Despite Howard’s slightly unnerving propensity to call me “sir” a few times, our conversation was delightful and wide-ranging. I hope to publish a piece on it soon.
