Wonderful review of a wonderful band. I only wanted to clarify that the "synthesizer solo" is in fact a Reed Mathis bass solo. Saw it with my own eyes last week at the record release show and he is truly amazing, as is the rest of the band.
Thanks!

Went to high school with Jeff in Corvallis, OR and have been a huge Raiders, Brotherhood, Drake/Smitty/Phil fan since. Saw at least 4 different Raiders line-ups with obviously the classic one as the best. Wish the Brotherhood would have made it because these guys influenced so many other musicians and their music over the years anyway. Put both of my lps onto digital so they are on my iPod all the time. RIP Smitty and Drake.

Awesome interview Bill! I have been a ELP freak since my borther brought home TRILOGY I could not stop listening.. It had the same effect on me as a Beatles album and I played it until I wore it down... My Parents really liked it too which made it more acceptible.. It was always a bit more complicated to try and play when I was younger but Greg's voice was and is so pleasing to my ear.. I will dust off my vinyl and have a bit of a ELP weekend now! Thanks again for this great interview and a re-kindle of one of my fave trios!

"Garage/psych enthusiasts might be surprised....."

I'm not surprised as I heard Greg Shaw was an avid acid-eater and I believe his love of psychedelic rock was evident in much of his writing as well as what he chose to release.
